Paseo Neighborhood Security Patrol Q & A

PASEO NEIGHBORHOOD PATROL
Q & A

You may have noticed the amber flashing light of the Paseo Neighborhood Patrol in recent days.  The patrol is a new program that is organized and run by our very own neighborhood residents and friends just like you.  With the very first patrol shift we noticed an immediate impact in deterring crime.  We would like to add more volunteers to ensure continued success of the patrol.  The following questions and answers are designed to help you decide if the patrol is a good fit for you.

Who are the patrollers?  We are your fellow neighborhood residents and friends.  We drive our own vehicles and work in teams of two people per shift.

When are the patrol shifts?  Each team patrols one two-hour shift per month.  The team chooses which day and time they would like to patrol by signing up on a schedule.

Who is my patrol partner?  Your patrol partner can be a spouse, neighbor, or friend that has completed the patrol training class.

How do I get started?  Every Patroller goes through a one hour training course.  This course shows how to use the equipment, what to do, and answers any questions.

When are the patrol training courses offered?  Classes are offered every other month.  The next patrol training course is Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 7:00PM.

Where is the training session?   Patrol training sessions are held at the Hefner Police Division, 3924 NW 122nd Oklahoma City, OK 73120.   Drive directions exiting the Paseo Neighborhood from NW 30th St are: Turn right on N. Classen Blvd, left at NW Expressway, right onto Lake Hefner Pkwy, take the NW 122nd exit and turn left.  Hefner station is approximately 3/10 of a mile on the left.

Who conducts the patrol training?  The neighborhood patrol program is sanctioned by Neighborhood Alliance of Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Police Department.  Ongoing training sessions are taught by MSgt. Charles Epperly.

What about the equipment?  All equipment needed is provided by the patrol.

Who do I contact for information?  The Patrol Coordinator for the Paseo is Robert Lane.  You can contact her by phone at (405) 850-4938 or by email at paseowatch@yahoo.com.  She can answer any of your questions and can sign you up to begin patrolling.

What’s in it for me?  As a volunteer for the Paseo patrol you will experience the satisfaction of knowing that you are giving back to your community by helping to reduce crime in your neighborhood.  Quality of life, property values and neighborly relationships can all be greatly improved using the patrol.  Each year volunteers will be invited to an exclusive “Patrollers Only” dinner.
